McGOWAN_BRAVE_HC_TEST2.inddBrave by Rose McGowan was released today and I just wanted to take a bit of time to address what I believe is an incredibly important book to be aware of this year alongside a few others including #MeToo Essays About How and Why This Happened, What it Means, and How to Make Sure it Never Happens Again by Lori Perkins. IMG_0472Addressing the shitty way in which women have been treated throughout the history of our world is something that I hope spurns a worthwhile improvement to how society treats and responds to these sort of situations for any person who has been subjected to sexual assault or harassment in the future.

I’ve been fortunate enough to grow up in a time where the demand for accountability and the requirement to treat others respectably is regularly being fought for. It needs to be known that these things are happening and we need to address it. Willful ignorance is unacceptable, turning a blind eye is unacceptable. And I think we’ve taken strides to push victim blaming aside and make a safer world and environment for those who’ve been sexually harassed or asaulted.

My hope is that one day the monsters are brought to justice and everyone who comes forward is treated with the respect they deserve. I never want to see another Weinstein or a Brock Turner again, but if I do I want to know that they were punished accordingly and that the victims of their disgusting and inhumane acts are not blamed or questioned unfairly. I don’t know how far we are from that day, but at least we’re stepping closer.

Barnes and Noble is currently selling signed copies of Brave. I’m not sure how long they’ll be available but I’ve already ordered my copy and hope to have it soon.
