And I’m back with another five books that were released this year and subsequently added to my TBR for sounding amazing! We’re still in January, but it’s winding down and soon we’ll get started on February’s releases!
This first book, The Defiant by Lesley Livingston is another of those books that I have been meaning to read the first book of but haven’t gotten around to it. Subsequently, and also due to the mere fact that I loved the synopsis, this book has made its way onto my list. Honestly, anything set in Rome or Greece in that particular time period that highlights the themes of stories like this is something I’m going to be interested in. There’s just so much to their stories that amazes me and while I’m truly much more fond of Greek Mythology than Roman Mythology, that doesn’t change the fact that I love these kinds of tales.
I’m not exactly obsessed or in love with aliens so I can be pretty picky sometimes about the sorts of books I read featuring them. I do really love space, though, so at the end of the day, there’s a lot enticing me to consider these sorts of books. The Last Girl on Earth by Alexandra Blogier sounds particularly intriguing. The story goes as the title implies. The main character is the last girl on Earth and has been adopted by an alien family. I dunno how this book is gonna go, but I think it sounds interesting enough to be worth reading.
I Am Thunder by Muhammad Khan sounds so dark. This book, from what I understand, is centered around religion and culture and the freedom that comes with it. There are a lot of expectations from family members no matter what religion you follow, so it stands to reason that some children will have a very hard time with the requests of their parents for a lot of different reasons. And this is going to be a very individualistic thing. This book also hints at extremist views, which I find rather interesting and fascinating. I’m not sure what those views are, but I’m definitely looking forward to finding out!
The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert is only on my list because of the hype. I actually already tried to pick this book up and read it and ended up setting it aside for another time. I’m fairly certain that I’m not going to enjoy this book. It doesn’t sound interesting to me and I was bored within the first few pages. I’m still planning on giving it another shot, but if it doesn’t work out the second time, I imagine I will be leaving this book behind. So, we’ll see how that goes. This book might just not be for me.
I’ll be honest, Reign the Earth by A.C. Gaughen doesn’t actually sound exceptional to me. The themes seem to be pretty typical for the story it’s trying to tell, but it is a story that I really do enjoy so it’s on my TBR. I don’t know if this book will impress me. Chances are it will simply end up being one I enjoy but not one that has a lot of new ideas or twists. And, of course, I could be incredibly wrong about this book. I’m just going to have to read it to find out.
That’s all I have for today, though I’m sure there will be another update soon! And, as always, let me know your thoughts about these books in the comments! Do you have any on your TBR? Will you be adding some? What do you think of the books thus far?
Happy reading, everyone!
