So, my boyfriend and I are huge fans of John Oliver and we try to watch him once a week–though ironically, this is the week where we were too busy to do so until last night and resultingly, this post is a little late. However, it’s one that I feel definitely deserves a place on this blog and a review on Goodreads, so here we go.

Who has heard of Marlon Bundo? Which of you know about his books?

Yes, that’s right. I said books.

And I’m so glad that I did because I can promise I wouldn’t have spent a cent on Pence’s version.

marlonbundoIn recent days, the Pences (our Vice President’s family) have written a children’s book about the rabbit they own and his life in the White House. Now, naturally, I think many of us are well aware of Mike Pence’s backward and disturbing views, particularly where LGBTQ+ are concerned. Well, John Oliver has taken his book and written a better one. And boy, was it beautiful.

I’ve already bought the audiobook and ordered two physical copies, one of which I intend to give to my three-year-old niece who currently lives with my Trump supporting father. And I’m so incredibly excited.

A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo, or the Better Bundo Book, by Marlon Bundo himself (with the help of Jill Twiss) and illustrated by E.G.Keller tells the tale of Mike Pence’s bunny as he lives in the White House and eventually falls in love with another male bunny. I think it comes as no surprise that the villain in this book has an uncanny resemblance to Mike Pence himself as he angrily shouts, “Boy bunnies can’t marry boy bunnies!

Well, I think we’re all here to tell this villain what ludicrous nonsense that statement is. Hopefully, one day, he’ll listen.

All proceeds from the sales of this book will be going to The Trevor Project and AIDS United, which just becomes even more of a good reason to buy this book. I definitely urge everyone to go ahead and have a look, maybe buy a copy or three. You can find the information at www.betterbundobook.com. You can also get a free e-book copy for donating to the charities.

And you should also watch this amazing video from last week’s episode of Last Week Tonight since it’s got a beautifully animated version of the beginning of the book, featuring the audiobook narrators Jim Parsons, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jeff Garlin, Ellie Kemper, John Lithgow, Jack McBrayer, and RuPaul. I listened to the audiobook last night, and believe me, it’s so worth it. I can’t wait to share this with everyone I know.

Happy reading, everyone!
