Hello everyone and welcome to the May Readalong! This month we’re going to be reading Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi! I hope you’re all as excited about this as I am. I’ve been meaning to read this book since it came out and I’m so excited to be sharing the experience with you guys! If you haven’t gotten yourself a copy just yet, please do so! I’ve included some links below for easy access though you don’t have to buy from those specific sources if you find the book elsewhere. We’ll have the whole month to read the book and you don’t have to finish at any specific time, so don’t feel like you can’t join in due to time.
In the course of four weeks this month, we’ll read in increments of 25%. None of you have to follow the timeline as it is more of a guide. To participate all you have to do is read the book. No, you do not have to finish reading it if you don’t like it. You don’t even have to finish if you don’t have time, but you do have to at least start the book.
I’m still working on making Twitter a bigger part of the readalongs, especially with the hashtag #RFReadalong, but I have to admit that I’m pretty bad at it. I don’t know how you all feel about Twitter, but I definitely think it’s kind of a big part of the book community and so I want it to be inclusive. If you do join the readalong and want to post about it on Twitter, please do so! I’ll try and check in as much as I can. I want to get more readers involved as well as increase the fun and give everyone the chance to chat and meet with fellow readers who are participating.
Sign-Ups: Google Forms worked decently well last month, so we’re going to continue using it. Remember, to get the 3 extra giveaway entries for the book giveaway that comes at the end of the month, you have to sign up!
I’ll follow anyone who joins the Readalong and I encourage everyone participating to do the same! I really want this to become something that allows us to interact with each other while reading, so please make use of the platforms you can! You can enter below or click the link to enter on a different page. And you can edit your percentage as you go!
You can see who’s participating here!
Please feel free to follow each other, to chat about the book, update your progress on Twitter, and whatever else you think would make the Readalong more fun. As always, I’m open to ideas and suggestions (which you can DM me on Twitter, e-mail me about, or comment below) and remember there is a giveaway that will be held at the end of the month and you get three extra entries for participating.
Reviews: Ideally, you should write a review for the book sometime after the readalong has finished. Reviews are good for extra entries into the giveaways (and you can use a review for any book that has been featured in a readalong this year). Additionally, for one week following the end of the readalong, I will feature the blogs/twitter/Goodreads accounts on this blog for anyone who has written a review.
There is a form available on the Monthly Readalong page where you can submit your reviews, so check that out when you can. The review does not have to be positive or negative. It doesn’t have to be long. It should just be your honest opinion of the book. Reviews help both readers and authors and I’d love it if you all could write one. I really want to foster a relationship with these readalongs of writing reviews for the books.
May 1st: Begin the book.
May 8th: 25% or page 132
May 15th: 50% or page 263
May 22: 75% or page 394
May 29: Finish line!
June 6th: This is the last day to submit a review of the book that I will feature on this blog.
As always, you don’t have to follow this timeline. This is more to provide an idea for when I will be posting about the book and even I don’t follow it exactly. I’m really excited to read this book with you guys! Let’s get started!
Happy reading, everyone!
