This one, off the top of my head, is on my TBR largely because I requested it from NetGalley. When I first set to writing this post, I couldn’t for the life of me recall what this book was about. But The Girl King by Mimi Yu just sounds like an immeasurably fantastic book. There’s the injustice of gender politics, the thoroughly frustrating piece of fighting for privileges that are awarded to people as a result of simply being born a certain way, familial betrayal, and the ultimate travesty of having to fight one’s closest relatives.
There is a lot in this book to be excited for and what’s even better is that it is a diverse book written by an ownvoices author. I couldn’t be more excited to read this book and am frankly quite saddened that I’ve put it off for so long. While there are a lot of books on my NetGalley, this is definitely one I should have picked up quite some time ago.
I have high hopes for this book and am exceptionally looking forward to picking it up. In fact, I’ll likely end up doing so very soon now that I’ve finally looked back at the book that I was approved for. I don’t know which sister I’ll end up rooting for or where this book is going to end, but I’m excited to follow along in this particular journey. I have a feeling this might be one of those books that sticks with you. At least, here’s hoping.
So how about the rest of you? Is this book on your TBR? Have you read the galley of it? Is it something you’re not interested in? What are your reasons? Let me know in the comments! And, as always, happy reading to you all!
