The synopsis does an absolutely terrible job of selling Imprison the Sky by A. C. Gaughen, I have to say. Reading it made me want nothing to do with the book merely because it seemed as though it would be poorly written. And, in all honesty, I’m very on the fence about adding this one to my TBR. It feels like it will end up being a jumbled mess with characters I likely wont care about. And at the same time I’m incredibly curious about the feminist form that this novel appears to be taking. And I really want to know what’s going on with this Queen who is leading a rebellion against her husband because it just sounds incredibly interesting. But the problem is that I don’t care about her brother and I don’t care what role he plays in the romance with the main character who is a slave.
So, I don’t know. Bits of it leave a bad taste in my mouth, but there are some pieces that I really just want to read through. I want to know what goes on with that side of the story, but unfortunately it’s not the focal point of it. And that’s the big reason why I feel so eh about adding this one, because the story that I most want to read about is the side plot and not the main focus. I have a feeling, though I could be wrong, that I will still feel this way upon reading the book which will make for a rather annoying read.
I’ll be adding this book for now, with the hope that it ends up being far better than what I’m expecting. What do you think about the book? Is it something you’re interested in reading? Adding to your TBR? Do you think you’ll pass? Let me know in the comments!
