I stumbled on the cover for A Swirl of Ocean by Melissa Sarno a little while ago while I was browsing some of the new releases available on NetGalley and just fell in love almost instantaneously. I’m pretty certain that my love for this particular cover played a rather large role in my decision to request it. I haven’t heard back just yet, but I’ve got my fingers crossed. It’s just a bit of shame that, even if I do get approved for a galley copy, I wont be getting a copy in the mail that I can sit nicely on my shelf to be admired as this cover demands to be.
I love a lot of things about this cover, but I think what catches my eye the most are the pieces where the color blends together. The blue and light purple mesh exceedingly well together especially with the white of the waves and the green/yellow of the sky beyond the silhouette of the town. There’s something incredible about the way there’s a brilliant light surrounding the girl, almost as if the ocean itself is coming to her and building her into a blinding luminescence.
The sea creatures from the starfish to the turtles that have found a place in the ocean side of the cover are so much fun to look at and leave me feeling amazed by the splendor. I really love how the ocean has turned into a swirl and the animals all swim along with it, never once even considering pushing against it. And then, while I wouldn’t normally enjoy this text, it fits so perfectly with the cover that it actually has become quite pleasing to look at.
The colors are perfect, the size is perfect, and all in all this is one of the most fun covers I’ve ever seen. What do you think of the cover for A Swirl of Ocean? Do you like it? Do you hate it? Are you going to give it a read or no? Let me know in the comments!
