I think the thing I love most about cover appreciation day is the fact that this will never be influenced by whether or not I liked the book’s story, writing, characters, or plot. This is solely about appreciating the work that a cover artist put in to an amazing piece of art.
I haven’t read today’s book, Spirt of Elm by Michael Villa, but I fell utterly in love with it the moment I first saw the cover. This is one of those entirely nostalgic moments, for when I look at this cover I see The Iron Giant, a much underrated cartoon movie from the 90s that both broke and warmed my heart when I was a kid.
This series is called The Caretaker’s Legacy, which I find kind of interesting since it definitely implies a bit about this beautiful metal creature we’ve got there on the cover. I think it’s safe to presume that the creature is gargantuan and the cover depicts it looking down at small little old us from above. Either way, everything about this cover is beautiful. Honestly, the only thing I would change is the weird grey box behind the author’s name (and subsequently the placement and text of the author’s name in general because it just doesn’t seem to fit.
So, what did you think? Like it? Love it? Hate it? Let me know in the comments! Happy reading, everyone!
