Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

It took me a bit longer to find the 10 books for this Top Ten Tuesday than I imagined it would, but here we are, finally, with ten books being published in the coming tail end of 2019 and there’s even one that I really want an ARC for. I kind of just grabbed these based on publication date rather than putting them in any pre-determined order. I hope you find at least one book on here that you’re interested in!

a treason of thorns10. A Treason of Thorns by Laura E. Weymouth

Honestly, this novel is shrouded in mystery and it almost sounds like a thriller/horror novel. Fortunately for the book, that word is almost and I genuinely believe that it’s more of an adventure fantasy. Otherwise, it probably wouldn’t be on my TBR at all. I’ve never really been partial to those kind of stories, after all. A Treason of Thorns is centered around a magical house and a father who tried to escape oppressive rule of a king and was murdered for the treason. Now his daughter has returned to the house to save it, but finds herself in the same position as her father was all those years ago before he attempted to flee.

steel tide9. Steel Tide by Natalie C. Parker

I keep meaning to read Seafire, but of course I’ve been taking a massively long time to get to it. This, in and of itself, is kind of awful considering the fact that I actually have an ARC sitting in my house. Fortunately it was one that I got via a trade rather than one I got in exchange for a review, but at the same time it’s very clear to me that I should have read it by now. As for Steel Tide, this is the sequel to Seafire and as such I haven’t read much of the synopsis at the moment since I’d rather not have any spoilers. But I do have to say that I love the cover. I wish that the cover for the first book matched this one in some way, because this is better and I hate when covers don’t match.

stargazing8. Stargazing by Jen Wang

I’ll be honest, I probably wouldn’t pick up this novel if I didn’t love the author. I don’t find the synopsis all that interesting currently, but I do know that Jen Wang is an amazing artist and that I loved the previous graphic novel she wrote so much that I even gave my copy away as a gift for someone moving away that I was really going to miss. So, Stargazing is on my TBR and I’m sure that if it is anything like The Prince and the Dressmaker I will love it immensely.

anya and the dragon7. Anya and the Dragon by Sofiya Pasternack

Anya and the Dragon has been on my TBR for a long time and it all started with that utterly gorgeous cover that I, personally, just couldn’t look away from. In a world where her family is in danger of starvation, Anya sets out to get the reward offered for killing the last dragon. But her plans are brought to a halt when she meets the dragon, realizing that it is not the evil beast everyone has made it out to be. Suddenly Anya finds herself with a difficult choice to make. Does she save her family from their destitute circumstances and kill the dragon, or does she save the innocent creature whom she has come to know?

the orchid throne6. The Orchid Throne by Jeffe Kennedy

I am in love with the idea for this story. From the displaced Prince attempting to overthrow the Emperor who destroyed his kingdom and took his throne to the Queen who is fighting to keep her people free and the Emperor from doing the same to her kingdom. It’s only natural that these two would find reason and need to band together, but it all culminates in the magical ring that the Queen keeps safe and knows might be the only thing keeping her kingdom from the conquering Emperor. I am so on board for this novel and eagerly awaiting its publication date. The real shame is that this book doesn’t come out until September. Until that time, does anyone have an ARC? Cause I want it.

the beautiful5. The Beautiful by Renée Ahdieh

The Beautiful by Renée Ahdieh is not a book I would typically pick up. I’m not often fond of murder mysteries and I’m not quite sure what it was that convinced me to add this book to my TBR. But it’s there and it’s one of the ones being published later in 2019, which is why it’s found a place on this list. The Beautiful follows a young woman taken from Paris to New Orleans by a convent. A story that involves various gruesome murders and the city is said to be ruled by the dead, The Beautiful definitely seems like a novel bound to keep readers on their toes.

the emissary4. The Emissary by Tamara Veitch and Rene DeFazio

I am all on board for reincarnation novels. I’m actually reading a series that follows something similar right now and I just absolutely adore them. The Emissary follows guardians, Marcus and Theron as they are pursued through each reincarnation through 13,000 years by an evil that hopes to wipe out the possibility for peace within the world. The two lovers must fight with each life they live in order to defeat this evil and bring the world to a time in which it can prosper without the destruction brought on by their greatest enemy.

a river of royal blood3. A River of Royal Blood by Amanda Joy

Damn, this book has one of the most epic covers I’ve ever seen. Just look at it! Almost instantaneously you fall in love, right? So, yes, this book has largely found its way to my TBR due to the amazing beauty that is the cover. However, the plot of this book also sounds fantastic. It involves two princesses with magic and an expectation that, in order to rule, the Princesses must basically fight to the death as only the strong are permitted to rule this kingdom. And frankly I cannot wait to see how this novel goes.

hero2. Hero by Michael Grant

I’m so far behind in reading this series. Honestly, I didn’t even realize that this was the third book. I thought it would be the second. But I suppose that one has already come out. Honestly, 100% of the reason that I want to read this book is because I really loved the original series. Now, I do realize, years down the road from my first time reading it, that there are several problematic factors to the Gone series, but I do hold a sort of nostalgia for the series and, barring those pieces, I do genuinely really believe that the rest of the series is good. Now, I’m not sure about the author since I’ve heard some disappointing things about him, though nothing exceptionally problematic to the point that I would stop reading his books. So, I’m still curious enough to want to read this series, I just haven’t gotten to it yet.

blood heir1. Blood Heir by Amélie Wen Zhao

This book is utterly surrounded by controversy. And honestly, that just makes me all the more interested in reading it. I don’t know how my opinions will pan out for this novel in the end, but I do know that I’m going to be taking into consideration all the things that have been said about it up to this current point in time. Blood Heir was initially pulled from publication due to the fact that it was discussed as problematically racist, however recently the author decided to go forward with its publication and so I’ve decided that the only way to determine whether or not the criticism is founded is for me to read it myself. And I will either rave, complain, or just talk about some meh feelings once I’ve finished.

And those are the books! Thanks for dropping by today and happy reading to you all!

  1. All of these sound so wonderful. I’m nervous but excited for Blood Heir. And, oh my gosh, A Treason of Thorns sounds SO intriguing, I’m surprised I haven’t heard anything else about it yet?

  2. I was offered an ARC of The Orchid Throne, but I’m so swamped with ARCs releasing around that time, and I’m not a huge fan of romance. =/ I hope you’re able to get your hands on it, though! There’s a giveaway on Goodreads right now, if you want to try your luck. A Treason of Thorns is also on my TBR! It sounds so good. I’m glad to see that Blood Heir is going forward, too. I thought it was such a shame that it was pulled, but I, for one, will definitely be picking it up when it comes out!

    Here’s my TTT post.
