Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
Honestly, a part of me kind of wants to boycott this one because it is a notoriously terrible idea to eat or drink whilst reading. It is, quite frankly, a recipe for damaged books. And I should know because I’ve done it many, many times. I remain ashamed of this fact. With that said, here are some things I will consent to eat around books nowadays–that I’m out of my thoughtless phase–as they are less likely to cause any damage. No drinks, tbh, because those just can’t be trusted. Not even water.
I’ve only tentatively put this on here because I do love eating cheese snacks…however, sometimes they can cause issues for the book if you drop them on it. Really depends on the cheese, in the long run, but also this is one I’d be careful with.
Ritz, preferably, but any kind works. You might have a few crumbs but at least they won’t damage the book.
8. Granola Bars
Only if they’re the soft kind–those are less likely to result in massive amounts of crumbs.
This one is a bit crummy, depending, but if you manage to eat it correctly, you should be fine.
6. Beef Jerky
Don’t have to worry too much about crumbs and it’s very tasty.
5. Plain Donuts
It’s almost the same as a bread roll, tbh.
4. Bread Rolls
And speaking of! Very little by way of crumbs and even when they’re there, they don’t damage the book.
3. Oatmeal Cookies
Firstly, because I don’t like chocolate chip. Secondly, because oatmeal doesn’t have the melted chocolate that would cause some serious damage if it landed on the book.
2. Fruit Snacks
Even if I dropped them (since I’m always clumsy), they wouldn’t cause any harm.
1. Jolly Ranchers
They stay in my mouth the whole time and are never at risk of falling on the book. Really, any candy like this could work.
As you can see, my eating habits around books are very much avoid, avoid, avoid. This is largely due to the fact that I have, on numerous occasions in my childhood, destroyed books because I ate around them or had a glass of water nearby. I even managed to destroy my signed copy of Bernie Sanders’ book with water once…I sobbed.
