Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

I once had a tumblr blog completely dedicated to quotes. I would post all the book quotes in the world there, writing out the ones that spoke to me in some way or another. I actually really miss this blog, despite the fact that I haven’t updated it since I was a Sophomore in college–damn, that was a long time ago. And, ironically, it was setting up for this TTT post that inspired me to consider starting a quote series on this blog. For now, I’m not going to pick my best quotes simply because that would take way too long, but here are a few quotes I really love (in no particular order).

10. Anthony Horowitz; Oblivion

An envoi is a short chapter which you will find at the end of a book. It’s a very literary word, a sort of goodbye.

9. George MacDonald; The Princess and the Goblin

“It was foolish indeed–thus to run farther and farther from all who could help her, as if she had been seeking a fit spot for the goblin creature to eat her in at his leisure; but that is the way fear serves us: it always sides with the thing we are afraid of.”

8. Cristin Terrill; All Our Yesterdays

No one should be confronted with the depths of darkness they’re capable of all at once.

7. Ellen DeGeneres; Seriously…I’m Kidding

Maybe you want to dog-ear this page or book mark it or write a note to yourself so you remember it. I know folding the corner of a page ruins the aesthetic of the book and you might lose money should you ever try to resell it, but that’s what makes life so difficult. It’s the choices you make.

6. Sarah Dessen; Keeping the Moon

“You should never be surprised when people treat you with respect. You should expect it.”

5. Stephen Chbosky; The Perks of Being a Wallflower

“But because things change. And friends leave. And life doesn’t stop for anybody.”

4. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry; The Little Prince

“Of course I love you. It is my fault that you have not known it all the while.”

3. Marissa Meyer; Heartless

“To be all right implies an impossible phase. We hope for mostly right on the best of our days.”

2. Marissa Meyer; Cress

“Maybe there isn’t such a thing as fate. Maybe it’s just the opportunities we’re given, and what we do with them.”

1. Evangeline Denmark; Curio

“We’re not porcies with pumps for hearts and delusions for souls.”
