I’m taking a moment today to step away from your typically scheduled book posts to briefly mention that it’s election day. I don’t know about all of you guys, but I’ll be entirely honest…I’m pretty scared. The country is in an incredibly depressing state right now. Horrible, horrible people have been in power for the last two years and will continue to be in power if we don’t fight back. There is nothing good about our current administration. It is an embarrassing, unintelligent, inhumane organization trying to push racism, sexism, and homophobia among much more.
And I know someone recently who has started to feel hopeless, just as I have on numerous occasions. I think it takes a lot for someone who has always been especially interested in politics and making a difference in the world to suddenly throw in the towel. It’s usually me feeling disheartened as though there’s nothing we can do to improve things because no matter how hard we try, we always seem to have nothing to show for it. And I’ve felt that. It terrifies me.
And I keep thinking to Texas, almost wishing that I lived there so I could vote against the despicable trash that is Ted Cruz…but sometimes I wonder what would that even accomplish when the ballot boxes are so compromised that he probably wont lose? And the truth is, I’m not sure. But I can say that every single Republican politician who is fighting progress, every single inhumane Senate members who voted for Kavanaugh are despicable people and I hope, one day, we’ll be able to get rid of them.
Even if that day is not today.
So, I’m here to say…if you’re not voting, go vote. If you find that you vote and the wrong candidate is voted in, vote next time the elections come around. Stand up, keep fighting. The more you give up, the more you lose. And progress, as much as we would all like it to happen sooner rather than later isn’t something that always happens quickly. There will always be some enormously terrible people there to fear it and fight it.
We’ll get there eventually.
But we wont if we don’t do anything about it. So, today you all have a chance to do exactly that. Please, go vote. This country needs that. Otherwise we’re all screwed.
