One, two…three! It’s time to start screaming, everyone! Like, for real, though. After I don’t even know how many years, Suzanne Collins is writing a new Hunger Games novel! It’s set 64 years prior to the start of the first novel, a timeline that leads us back past through a great number of victors all the way to, as some have guessed, Mags. And while my Hunger Games knowledge isn’t quite enough to determine if this fact is actually true or not, I’d definitely take just about any victor whom I loved.
Honestly, I could bounce about with excitement. But I won’t. Yet.
I genuinely do believe that there’s a lot to be incredibly excited about for this novel, though I hope that the commentary Collins is attempting to give us doesn’t go over a bunch of people’s heads like it seems to have with the original series. I mean, honestly…it was a commentary on how we get too hyped up about trivial media and then the movies come out and everyone keeps asking, “Are you team Peeta or team Gale?” as if that was the question we all should have been focusing on!
And don’t even get me started on Trump.
As quoted from the article linked above, Collins has said, “With this book, I wanted to explore the state of nature, who we are, and what we perceive is required for our survival. The reconstruction period 10 years after the war, commonly referred to as the Dark Days — as the country of Panem struggles back to its feet — provides fertile ground for characters to grapple with these questions and thereby define their views of humanity.”
Frankly, I can’t wait to see what she comes up with.
