I have exciting news, you guys! As one of the few books I read in high school that I actually enjoyed, I’ve always had a special place in my heart for the writing of Margaret Atwood. The Handmaid’s Tale is a terrifying commentary on the treatment of women that is ironically still relevant today and I definitely appreciate having had the chance to read the book. Dystopians are always exceptionally important in that they show the pieces of society that are dark and dangerous and why we should never let them get into any extremes.
Unfortunately, sometimes we live our own dystopian.
And, excitingly, Margaret Atwood is publishing a sequel! I can’t believe it’s taken so long for this to happen and I imagine that there was a very real possibility that this book would never exist some time ago. But, I think with the addition of a show and newfound interest in the story it has prompted this new sequel within the world of Gilead.
Even better, the book isn’t simply an account from other handmaids, but instead is said to finally clue us in to what happened to Offred after the final events of The Handmaid’s Tale!
The new book is called The Testaments and I could not be more thrilled at its publication. Of course, this book wont be out until September of next year, but I think that’s more than enough time to get ourselves properly amped for the release.
So, it’s definitely time to add The Testaments to your Goodreads. I already have!
