I remember feeling shocked that I really enjoyed this story when I finished it. I had avoided the series for a while after deciding I really didn’t like Maas’ writing in the first book of her other series. I was pleasantly surprised about how well-done the majority of A Court of Thorns and Roses was. Out of everyone, my favorite character was Lucien. And while I can admit that I liked Rhysand well enough, I hated the fact that he was being prepped as a love interest. I definitely saw his role more as a platonic best friend and it is this fact that has led me to avoid the hell out of the second book in this series.
I don’t want to see Rhysand as a love interest whatsoever.
In the strangest of ways, I’m kind of happy to think of this book as a standalone, to never really delve further into the world. Ultimately, the ending here is good enough for me. If you’d like to read a little more of my thoughts regarding this novel, feel free to check out my review. And, as always, you can check out the book on Goodreads as well!
