the princess of baker streetYou know, if memory serves me correctly, I really loved The Princess of Baker Street by Mia Kerick, which is pretty exciting considering some of her books have been hit or miss for me. But this one was really compelling, the story of two young characters, a transgender young girl and the neglected boy who loved her as they each struggled with the unfortunate and difficult facets of their own lives. I wonder if this is a story someone experienced themselves.

It’s funny, because I don’t typically find myself feeling overly fond of contemporary novels, but this one definitely got to me. It’s well told, the characters are fantastic, and it really tugs at your heart. With that said, there are definitely some sensitive topics within this story. Some deal with the misfortune of a parent who refuses to understand their child, bullying, and pure child neglect that is so bad it basically equates to abuse. So, definitely read this at your own discretion. If those topics are such that you will have a difficult time reading about them, this might not be the best book for you.
