the princess saves herself in this oneHonestly, I didn’t like this book. I know it was incredibly popular–probably still is–but it just seemed so lackluster and very much not a portrayal of decent poetry. My biggest problem with this book lies in the fact that it reads like someone in high school writing poetry even though they don’t actually have a great grasp or understanding of what poetry actually is. Basically, it reminded me of me when I first started writing poems and didn’t really know what made a poem a poem.

And I’m sorry, but hitting enter after every word just to make it look like poetry does not make it a poem.

So, my review basically says as much. And, if truth be told, I did enjoy the messages and stories behind the poems. But the poems themselves were just incredibly disappointing. Still, if you’re curious about this book you can definitely feel free to check it out on Goodreads.
