A Pocketful of Stars by Aisha Bushby has one of the most beautiful covers I’ve ever seen. I just love how the colors are all blended together. I’d be lying if I said the cover hadn’t motived me somewhat to request this book. The story itself is one that I was only a little interested in. I love the magical aspect of it all. I’m not sure if I’m quite invested in the characters just yet.

a pocketful of stars

A magical middle grade book about family, friendship and finding out who you are, full of emotion and a secret fantasy world to discover.

This place is magic . . . but it's not the sort of magic that comes from wands and spells...

Can piecing together the past help you change the present?

Safiya and her mum have never seen eye to eye. She struggles to fit in at school and Safiya often wonders if her mum wishes she was more like her confident best friend Elle. But when her mum becomes ill and falls into a coma, something mysterious happens. Saff finds herself transported back in time to her mother's childhood home in Kuwait. And it becomes clear that this isn't just a magical place: it's a game.

As Saff tries to figures out how to play the game, she realizes that opening her heart to the past is the key to changing the future.

Perfect for fans of Jacqueline Wilson, Ross Welford, Kiran Millwood-Hargrave and The House with Chicken Legs. From a rising star of children's books.
