I have to say first that the naming of the main character in Last of her Name by Jessica Khoury is incredibly silly, but I am SO in. An Anastasia retelling in space?! Sign me up, cross the t’s, dot the i’s, and take all of my money. I am all for this. Okay, so I’m obviously a little over the top in love with this idea and I promise you that it’s largely influenced by my absolute adoration of the movie made way back when that I watched almost religiously as a child–it wasn’t the only one, though, I promise–but I’m alright with that. I love space themed novels, I’ve always loved Anastasia and I feel like the mix of these two things will work incredibly well for me. I’m just kind of a little jealous that I didn’t think of it first. And it just came out recently! Now, this post is scheduled for next month (it’s currently March when I write this) and you can bet that I’m going to be buying this book as soon as I get the money. Whether that is before this post is published or after, I’m not entirely sure yet.
I will say that the one thing that makes me a little sad about this novel is that it doesn’t seem to mention a Demitri character at all and considering he was my favorite character of the movie, I’m a little bit weary of how his removal will affect the story. The plot doesn’t really need much explaining beyond Anastasia retelling, I think. There’s a royal family that was all murdered, the youngest Princess escaped and doesn’t remember her past, and then suddenly her identity is revealed. I’m looking forward to reading this book and I hope that some of you are as well!
What do you think about this book? Are you excited? Do you think it’s not for you? Let me know all your thoughts in the comments!
