I want to preface this by saying that my thoughts on Rayne & Delilah’s Midnite Matinee by Jeff Zentner are one hundred and ten million percent just a personal opinion and there is no judgement whatsoever from me if this is the sort of book that you would enjoy, in fact I hope that you do. But my first thought upon reading the synopsis to this novel was that it sounded boring as hell. A story about grappling with the choices one has to make about their future and determining where they’re going to go, where their friends are going to go, whether or not they will stick with their apparently self made cable tv show together or move on from one another, and the fact that the tv show is apparently about reviewing horror films that are her last connection to her deadbeat, runaway father sounds like one of the most blah books I’ve ever heard of in my life. But then again, I don’t actually find anything that I saw in the synopsis interesting in my daily life so why would I suddenly find it interesting in a book?
Here’s the thing, I very much believe that there will be a number of people who are excited about this book far more than I am. In fact, one of my best friends in the whole world loves horror whereas I look at her like she’s literally grown three heads every single time she tells me how much she loves Child’s Play. I get it. But this book isn’t for me. So, if you think that it might be for you, I would suggest checking out the Goodreads page linked above because I’m not going to be a great source for this particular book.
Feel free to let me know your thoughts in the comments! Does this sound like a book you want to read? Are you on my side where you’re wholly uninterested? Are you in the middle?
