Ruse by Cindy Pon is a sequel and therefore I stopped reading the synopsis early in order to avoid spoilers and instead when to check out the first book in the series. Wonderfully, I have a feeling that this book is going to end up remaining on my TBR in the future as it seems that the first book in the series is actually pretty fantastic sounding. A commentary on wealth and poverty, these books center on a world in which the air is so polluted that the only way in which to guarantee your survival and a longer life without getting sick is to buy exceedingly expensive suits to filter the air. The poor, resultingly, are forced to breathe in the poisonous air with no way of combating it. And, worst of all, the company that manufactures these life saving suits may just be the one polluting the air in the first place to make them necessary.
The first novel focuses on a young man, stuck in poisonous poverty who has developed a strong determination to be the one to change the system and save those who cannot save themselves. As he infiltrates the world of the rich and powerful, the healthy as a result, lines begin to blur centered around the world he knows and is fighting against and the young woman he’s met among the privileged.
All in all, I’m pretty excited to read this series. And thus both books have been put on my TBR. What do you think of this one? Will it be a book you add to your own TBR or are you not so interested? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!
