sky without starsSo, I do really want to read Sky Without Stars by Jessica Body and Joanne Rendell. But I also feel like I should really read Les Misérables first? Yep, you guessed it! This book is a Les Mis retelling! And I so desperately want to read it. But, I am an unfortunate sad sack who has, by some audacity and horror, never read the original. Actually, I haven’t even seen the film or play, either, largely due to that prior fact of not having read the novel. I have some serious catching up to do, I know.

Anyway, This is a book that has definitely found a spot on my TBR. When I get to it is kind of up in the air, though…

A thief. An officer. A guardian.
Three strangers. One shared destiny . . .
When the Last Days came, the planet of Laterre promised hope. But five hundred years later, it’s now a place where an extravagant elite class reigns supreme; where the clouds hide the stars and the poor starve in the streets; where a rebel group, long thought dead, is resurfacing.
Whispers of revolution have begun—a revolution that hinges on three unlikely heroes…
Chatine is a street-savvy thief who will do anything to escape the brutal Regime, including spying on Marcellus, the grandson of the most powerful man on the planet.
Marcellus is an officer—and the son of a traitor. Groomed to command by his legendary grandfather, Marcellus begins to doubt the government he’s vowed to serve when he discovers a cryptic message that only one person, a girl named Alouette, can read.
Alouette is living in an underground refuge, where she guards and protects the last surviving library on the planet. But a shocking murder will bring Alouette to the surface for the first time in twelve years…and plunge Laterre into chaos.
All three have roles to play in a dangerous game of revolution—and together they will shape the future of a planet.
Power, romance, and destiny collide in this sweeping reimagining of Victor Hugo’s masterpiece Les Misérables.

How do you feel about Sky Without Stars? Do you think you’ll be reading it? Adding it to your TBR? Are you like me and haven’t read the original yet? Does this book not really spark your interest? Let me know all your thoughts in the comments below! And feel free to shame me for not having read or seen any of the content already out for this.

  1. You 100% don’t need to read Les Mis first. I saw the movie years ago and honestly forgot almost all of it by the time I read this. Easy 5 stars.
