the devouring grayA friggin’ creepy cover for a friggin’ creepy sounding book, The Devouring Gray by Christine Lynn Herman is actually one that I’ve heard a lot about in recent months. And usually I’d avoid books such as this like the plague, but something about it has really intrigued me. And I’m not sure if it’s the hype or the way the synopsis describes the founders’ decedents of this sketchy little town, but I’m thoroughly intrigued. The Devouring Gray got me, and so my only hope is that I can devour this book as quickly as whatever this gray thing is seems to devour lives. We’ll see if I actually like the book or not, of course. But I am rather looking forward to this one, shockingly enough. Also, doesn’t the cover remind you a bit of The Black Cauldron?

On the edge of town a beast haunts the woods, trapped in the Gray, its bonds loosening…
Uprooted from the city, Violet Saunders doesn’t have much hope of fitting in at her new school in Four Paths, a town almost buried in the woodlands of rural New York. The fact that she’s descended from one of the town’s founders doesn’t help much, either—her new neighbours treat her with distant respect, and something very like fear. When she meets Justin, May, Isaac, and Harper, all children of founder families, and sees the otherworldly destruction they can wreak, she starts to wonder if the townsfolk are right to be afraid.
When bodies start to appear in the woods, the locals become downright hostile. Can the teenagers solve the mystery of Four Paths, and their own part in it, before another calamity strikes?

  1. I am currently reading it. Well I’m listening to the audiobook of it. I’m not too far into it so I don’t really have much of an opinion on it yet but I am enjoying it. The only issue I’ve had so far is keeping up with who is who.
